The CalcuRate 2010 'basic' Calculator - Rate Liability and Savings Calculators

Although it has the title of 'Basic', this part of the workbook has a large number of features which will be useful in calculating savings, checking bills, checking refunds, and forcasting liability. The 'Basic' calculator can show liability from any date in the 2010 rating list, but the effective date is restricted to 1/4/10. For effective dates after 1/4/10, or multiple effective dates you should use the 'Advanced' page.

Location – The English workbook allows the selection of England, Greater London, or City of London. There are separate workbooks for Scotland and Wales

Effective Date – The Basic Calculator is for Compiled List calculations effective from 1/4/10. For MCC’s or other changes – including multiple changes - effective from dates other than 1/4/10 use the Advanced Calculator.

SBRR – Will take account of Small Business Rate Relief

Charitable Relief – Automatically reduces liability by 80%

Add Deferred – Will add the repayment of the deferral from 2009/10 to the liabilities for 2010/11 and 2011/12. Amount will be calculated from prior list RV, but can be overwritten.

Defer? – This tickbox will reduce 2012/13 by the deferral amount (3.2%) and add the repayment amounts to the following years.

BRS Levying Authority – For Business Rate Supplements such as Crossrail, select the Levying Authority.

Show Liability From / To – Although the ‘basic’ calculator will always use 1/4/10 as the effective date, liability can be calculated for your client’s period of occupation by entering the dates here.

Copy this Page – creates a single sheet excel file to save on your computer or email to a client

Enter Payments - Allows you to compare liability to payments made to determine refund due or outstanding balance.

Instalments – For checking the payment plan shown on the rate account

Reports – Standard, Financial Year (i.e. annual liability from a date other than 1/4/10), Analysis (for a breakdown of the liability).

Use 'Old' SBRR Scheme - For checking a bill that was issued prior to the change to SBRR from 1/10/10

Copypaste - Feature that copies a simple savings grid to the clipboard for pasting into a Word document or an email

Transition Anaysis - Gives a detailed breakdown of how the transitional adjustment is calculated. Ideal for checking or explaining liability and also a good training aid for illustrating Transitional Relief or Transitional Premiums to those new to business rates.
